December 2009

  • Well done to all Cobras for taking part in the (snowy) Cobra Christmas Cracker on 20 December 2009.  Steve Fletcher was the overall winner with the fastest lap, Kristina Newton was fastest female and Jenny Pledger was first female.  Steve Cleary won the fancy dress prize.  Thanks go to John Lloyd (Race Director), Francine Orme (Starter), and Clive Murch (Time Keeper).  Hospitality was kindly provided by Jude Bazeley, Paul Westwood, Francine Orme, Steve Fletcher, Chris and Jan Pearson; who provided a splendid spread! Steve Cleary and Steve Gaul won the club's London Marathon Places.  It was great to see Mark's family turn out in good spirits and run over a difficult snowy course - Mark would have been dead proud with that.

  • Paul Orme’s wedding is on Friday 18th December. He is marrying Andrea at St Leonards Church in Clent.  Their reception is to be held at the Curradine Barns, Shrawley. And they are honeymooning in the Maldives (lucky pair).

November 2009

  • 20 Cobra runners took part in the Suicide Six on Sunday 15th November - well done to all.  This was a tough race for a number of reasons; which had a minute silence at the start to remember Mark Perry.  Thanks go to Mike Elwell for providing black ribbons for us all to wear on our Cobra vests.

  • Congratulations to Steve Hayes and Louise Littlewood have a bouncing baby boy. Oliver Timothy, who weighed in at 7lb was born on Friday 30th October. Mum and baby both doing well and are now back home.

  • It is with great regret to have to report the death of Mark Perry, who passed away in a tragic accident on Friday night.  Mark, 36, has been a member of Cobra since 2004 and to say he was a keen racer, is a big understatement.  He represented the club many, many times each year; preferring the longer runs (100 mile Ultra's and Marathons for example) along with the odd 10K and Cross Country.  Not only was Mark an avid 'club' racer, but he was also very popular and a really nice, genuine person to boot.  He was instrumental in the staging of our Classic race each year and quite simply put is a massive loss to the club; which can not truly be expressed in words here.  Our sincere condolences go to Mark's family; particularly his wife Emma and three children Meg, Molly and George.
