"Running for fitness, Running for fun"

Cobra Training Sessions

Our training sessions usually start and finish from the Halesowen Leisure Centre, Great Cornbow, Halesowen.  There are a few exceptions as detailed below:

Tuesday Running Halesowen Leisure Centre 6.30pm
Wednesday Running Halesowen Leisure Centre
WOMEN ONLY SESSION

Thursday Running (ii) Halesowen Leisure Centre
or Walton Hill Car Park (British Summertime)
7pm
Saturday Cycling (iii)  Grange Hill Island on A456
(Somers’s Club, Halesowen)
3pm
Sunday Running (iv) Halesowen Leisure Centre 9am

(i) The swimming session is coached by Matt Cherry, who is an excellent county swimmer and qualified coach.  There is an extra charge of £2 per session, plus the standard Halesowen Leisure Centre swimming cost.

(ii) The Thursday night hill session moves to the Clent Hills after clock change (British Summertime), to take advantage of the lighter nights.  The meeting point is the free car park on the junction of St Kenelms Pass (the road that runs in between Clent and Walton Hill) and Spring Lane. Please check the club notice board and website for any changes.

(iii) The Saturday cycling session will move to 2pm in the winter.

(iv) On the last Sunday of the month we usually meet somewhere in the Clent Hills to get a different route in. Details are emailed out to members.

Club members lead training and ensure that no one is left behind. Running sessions last between 60 and 90 minutes (approx 6-8 miles), though some members run further when training for marathons.

During summer months training is usually off-road.  Cobra offers a variety of training, including continuous running, interval running, speed training and hill training.

For inexperienced runners or those recovering from injury small groups will train with you at a slower pace, or over a shorter distance - just let someone know what you feel able to do.

Women Only Sessions

There is an extra training session organised for women only:

6.30pm         Wednesday nights

Meet at the Leisure Centre and our female club members will match the session to your ability. Complete beginners are welcome.

N.B. All women are welcome to train on any other club night too!

What some of our female runners have to say:

"After running with the Wednesday night ladies, there is no looking back.  ! was running solo around Halesowen with a need of commitment.  Cobra ladies have fulfilled that and have the patience and friendliness that puts any new member at ease."  Marsha Brazier

"If I hadn't joined the club, I wouldn't have ran and progressed to reach my goals. With the support from Cobra club I can get a structured plan to achieve the goals I want."  Sarah Scrivens

"This is the second time I’ve been to club and everyone is friendly and I enjoy it."  Leanne McBeth

"It’s good fun and a good gossip!"  Sarah Tranter

"Having not been a member for a year, due to injury, l was made very welcome on my return. Can't wait to do a longer run. I missed everyone during my time away!"  Dee McIlmurray
